Tunnel geometric control with 3D survey data

Geometric control compares the observed excavation with a documented reference. A useful result must explain where it was measured, against which design and under which criteria.

A reviewable chain of evidence

01

Validate the input

Check survey coverage, density, noise, coordinate system and units. Delimit the analyzed section and record missing areas.

02

Define the comparison

Use the correct alignment, station positions and design revision. Document tolerances, signs and measurement directions.

03

Review before consolidating

Inspect individual cross-sections before summarizing areas or volumes. Keep the source, criteria and output linked.

Limits that must remain visible

01

Occlusions and noise

Missing surface is not proof of an excavation boundary. Equipment, services, dust or unrelated objects may need separate review.

02

Reference errors

An incorrect CRS, alignment, chainage or design section can shift the comparison and undermine all downstream quantities.

03

Engineering responsibility

Geometric deviation alone does not establish geotechnical stability, structural adequacy or contractual acceptance.
